Please consider a gift of your time and talents through volunteer opportunities at DCMM! Whether leading a tour, doing office work, pounding a nail, serving on a committee, or helping with maintenance, volunteers are a valuable part of the Museum team. For more information on volunteering at the Museum, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Megan Dietz, at 920.743.5958, mdietz@dcmm.org, or stop by the museum – located at 120 North Madison Avenue, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Opportunities abound (see below)!
You can also use this handy form to express your willingness and interests!
Group Tour Leaders (Docents)
Volunteer Docents lead pre-scheduled groups on tours of the museum in Sturgeon Bay or at Death’s Door Maritime Museum. Share the past, present, and future of life on the Great Lakes and in Door County. DCMM provides a comprehensive docent training program, so any volunteer can confidently lead a Museum tour with no prior experience needed.
John Purves Docents
Docents on the tug John Purves share information about the function and share stories of the hardworking crews aboard the tug. Many of the docents also assist with ongoing maintenance of the vessel. No prior experience or knowledge is required, just an interest in learning and willingness to share what you learn!
Tower Docents
Volunteer in the Jim Kress Maritime Lighthouse Tower and spend your time with the best views in town! Tower docents are stationed on the 10th floor and answer questions about the views and working waterfront. Perfect for those who prefer smaller groups and no set script.
Community Festival Promotions & Raffle Ticket Sales
Help promote the museum at community festival booths, in parades, or selling raffle tickets for the wooden boatbuilding project or other special items.
Event Help
Welcome guests or members at special tables during events or on busy days at the museum, help sell raffle tickets at festivals, or provide event information.
Tractor Driver
Do you have experience in driving a farm tractor? We are looking for volunteers who can be a wagon/tractor driver for the Cana Island Lighthouse. Help shuttle guests across the causeway – everybody LOVES the tractor-wagon ride!
Office Help
Lend your skills in data entry, filing, shredding, or computer skills to help keep our organization in shipshape.
Hospitality
Provide hospitality or baked goods for Museum fundraising events throughout the year, including the Classic & Wooden Boat Show and the Merry-Time Festival of Trees.
