Tug John Purves

The dry-docking work for the tug John Purves is complete and the tug is back at home behind the Door County Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay!

The tugboat was moved to Bay Ship on December 11, 2023 and was part of the Winter Fleet; the tug returned to DCMM on Monday, April 15, in time for the start of the season on May 1.

Tug volunteers are busy cleaning the tug and getting ready to welcome guests back for tours.

Tugboat John Purves is open for tours May-October at 10:30am, 11:45am, 1:15pm and 2:30pm. Tug tours are only available as guided tours.

DCMM raised more than $350,000 in grant funds to support the much-needed restoration work. We thank the tug docents, The 1923 Fund, Destination Door County’s Community Investment Fund, and the National Park Service’s Save America’s Treasures grant program for their financial support for this project. Local vendor Roen Salvage Company provided in-kind towing services.
