DCMM is pleased to announce the very first exhibit in our new temporary and traveling exhibition space within the Peterson Gallery at the museum’s Sturgeon Bay location (120 North Madison Avenue). Entitled Beside the Lake, Beneath the Wind, the new exhibit features the nautical work of Door County master artist Gerhard CF Miller (1903-2003) and is a collaboration between DCMM and the Miller Art Museum.
DCMM is still looking for a few summer employees at Cana this year! We are also seeking part-time seasonal help at the Death’s Door Maritime Museum in Gills Rock! Contact Visitor Services Manager Megan Dietz for more information.
In celebration of a record-setting 2025, YOUR Door County Maritime Museum is pleased and excited to host a Community Appreciation Event on Friday and Saturday, April 3-4, 2026. The Community Appreciation Event will offer free admission for everyone to DCMM-Sturgeon Bay, open 10am-4pm both days.
Did you or someone you know work at Peterson Builders (PBI)? We are looking for the “People of PBI” who have a story to tell about their work building ships there. If you have a photo of yourself at work at PBI – share it with us along with some information about the image.

Why are we doing this? We are developing an exhibit on the People of PBI, and we will contact you to verify your story, and potentially include your image and story in the new exhibit.
The Peterson Gallery at DCMM Sturgeon Bay will be closed to the public January-April 2026 as we begin a complete overhaul of that space, which will reopen in May 2026.
The three other legacy galleries of the Sturgeon Bay museum – along with the Jim Kress Maritime Lighthouse Tower – are all open and ready for your visit!

Lighthouse Passport Days have many tour excursions and experiences that are unique and only available on these days, as several of the lighthouses in Door County are not typically open to the public – Chambers Island, Plum Island, and Sherwood Point, for example. While you can see them from outside or from the water, Passport Days give guests access that is not available throughout much of the year.
